Multi-Family Residence

San Diego, California

The multi-family project included two four story houses on one relatively compact urban site. In order to maximize the site for a common interior courtyard, garden and carports the houses were developed with narrow plans and vertically oriented living with elevator cores serving each house. Rooftop outdoor living spaces were maximized to take advantage of views of San Diego Bay and Maple Canyon. The exposed steel frame structures with stucco infill panels provided a unique opportunity to create a strong graphic quality to the buildings while also giving a respectful nod to mid-century steel framed buildings.
